10 Player City Break Unbeaten Record at Old Trafford

Manchester City women’s defeat Manchester United women’s on derby at Old Trafford breaking their 100% record at Old Trafford in the WSL and also giving the Citizens their first away win of the season.

Todays game between rivals broke the attendance record for a women’s match at Old Trafford with 43,615 fans in attendance to watch this game unravel.

City women’s came into the game heavily the underdogs being 2 points behind the red devils in the WSL table and United being unbeaten at Old Trafford ever.

United did come out strong putting on pressure into this City side and were rewarded with a penalty in the 21st minute of the game where Katie Zelem stepped up and slotted it away to give the home team some leverage in this derby.

It wasn’t took long after that, the City side stepped up a gear and Jill Rood, after a great run down the left, slots the ball into the back of the net to bring the game back to equal once again.

Then almost instantly after their equaliser in the 34th minute, Lauren Hemp steps up after Bunny Shaw had two chances to shoot but chooses to pass to the reliable Hemp, who slots it into the back of the net past Lioness teammate Earps to give the away team the lead.

The first half ends 1-2 to the away side with fans wondering what is going on with this United side after being so dominant at home this season.

The second half kicks off and it takes only 10 minutes for another goal on the scorecard. Bunny Shaw pounces on a bit of miscommunication between Le Tissier and Earps where Earps can only kick the ball into the direction of Shaws knee and rifles the back of the net to give the Citizens a 3-1 lead to their neighbours.

However, in the 72nd minute of the game, Aleixandri pulls down Garcia on the run at the defence and receives a second yellow and the leading side are down to 10 players giving their 3-1 lead less of a cushion.

In the end, United couldn’t react to this fast enough and the game ended 1-3 to the City side that were underdogs coming into the game, breaking Uniteds unbeaten record and putting them into 3rd place in the WSL 1 point ahead of United after this classic derby at Old Trafford!
